Meet the Founder
Hi, I’m Danielle. Thank you for taking the time to learn a little more about the person behind Little Lanterns.
-
Description text goes hereLittle Lanterns began very simply — with one small parcel packed at my kitchen table.
Inside were a few books, some cosy essentials, and a handwritten note. I wasn’t trying
to start an organisation. I just wanted one child to feel remembered. That small act of care quietly grew into something much bigger, and today it has become the heart of everything we do.

Description teMost weeks are spent behind the scenes, quietly planning and preparing. You’ll usually
find me surrounded by lists, notebooks, and half-packed boxes — researching books,
choosing supplies, writing letters, and carefully organising each parcel. Some days are
for coordinating volunteers or speaking with partners, while others are slower planning
days spent stretching the budget and figuring out how to make every box feel a little
more special. It’s simple, hands-on work, but it’s work filled with heart.

Everything I do is guided by empathy, dignity, and safety. I want support to feel calm
and respectful — never rushed, never overwhelming, and never impersonal. Children
deserve consistency and gentle care, not just occasional big gestures. Safeguarding
and trust are always at the centre of decisions, and I take time to make sure everything
is done thoughtfully and responsibly. I would always rather move slowly and do
something properly than grow too quickly and lose that sense of care.
-
Little Lanterns isn’t about numbers or scale to me — it’s about people. It’s about
imagining the moment a child opens a parcel and realises someone cares about them.
It’s about warmth, comfort, and connection showing up at exactly the right time. Even
as the project grows, I hope it always keeps that same handmade, personal feeling —
like something prepared just for them.
-
My hope is to grow Little Lanterns into a small but steady charity supported by kind volunteers, trustees, and trusted partners.
I’d love to see regular learning parcels, ongoing pen-pal connections, and eventually safe holiday camps and opportunities where children can rest, learn, and simply be children.
I’m not aiming to build something huge or corporate — just something dependable. A steady light families know they can trust.
“Small acts of care can light the way for a child who feels forgotten.”

"Thank you for being here and for helping keep the lanterns glowing. Whether you volunteer, donate, or simply share our work, you’re helping create moments of comfort and hope for a child who truly needs them."
